My new year's resolutions or promises for 2020

I know telling people about what you're gonna do will make it less likely that you actually go through with it, but what the hell. I am going to do it nevertheless.

1: I will be able to complete a standing on one leg before next year.

If you are unsure about what I mean by this, check out Jon Olsson video about it here:

It's a hard challange, especially for me who are a bit overweight and not in shape.

2: I will start a company

I have always wanted to create a company. The Swedish goverment is reducing the cost for creating a company this year by half. There is no reason for me not to do it anymore.

The company will not be my main thing. I will still have my day job and everything but it will be a side hustle that hopefully will bring in some extra cash.

More on what I am working on later!

3: I will blog at least once a week

Already failed basically, but I will try to blog at least once a week this year.

4: I will take more photos with my digital camera

I want to get out more in nature and take photos of it. I have a great little camera in order to do that so what I have left is simply bad excuses.

I want to take up my hobby as an amateur photographer because few things are so nice to look at as nature and photos of it. It's also a good way to get more exercise and to take longer walks with my dog.

It's also a great way to add content to my blog which will solve the number #3 part! Two birds with one stone!

5: I will game less and create more

One big issue I have is that after working for 8 hours a day, there is often little motivation to program more than that. So I have spent a lot of time gaming. But gaming is so useless because it doesn't give you anything long term.

It doesn't provide you with more value in the long run, just pleasure in the moment. I game too much and I want to change that.

6: I will stay on Linux

The last year, I have switchted between linux and windows more than anyone should tolerate. I have a hard time picking something and then just sticking with it.

So now it's decided. I have installed Fedora on my laptop which works great now (it didn't before) and I have Ubuntu installed on my desktop pc. Windows 10 is pretty good except for the ads, surveillance and other spyware.

I really value privacy and integrity so running Windows 10 is simply a show stopper. Also, coding in .NET and hosting it on Azure is much more expensive than simply running stuff on a vps on a smaller hosting provider.

Now I can host what I create cheaper, get support for ipv6 and other goodies and obtain a bigger freedom. C# and .NET is great, but you get pushed and just start consuming most things in the Microsoft garden because it's what works best with eachother and is easiest.

I am instead going to focus on Javascript and web development. Maybe I'll venture into something else as well, but we'll see about that.
